John Robert Mylchreest was the son of John Mylchreest and Elizabeth Keed. He was born in Castletown on 24th September 1842. His parents were married at Malew church on 24th February 1842. His father was a hatter in Castletown he was known locally as "Jack the Hatter". Before moving to Castletown John Mylchreest had lived at Cross-four-ways with his parents William Mylchreest and Margaret Taylor. John Robert Mylchreest often went away to sea and sometimes lodged in Liverpool. John Robert Mylchreest married Frances Arnold on 21st August 1870 at Arbory church.
